Bear Pen Farm has been in operation since 1973. Located on a mountaintop overlooking beautiful Bear Pen Hollow, Dave and Maria Smith live in the Solar-Powered log home that they built themselves with materials that came mostly from their 40-acre parcel of land. The Smith’s are subsistence farmers, growing most of their own food, including vegetable and root crops, beef, pork, poultry, eggs, honey, fruit and until recently milk, cheese, cream and butter from their Jersey milk cows.
